Out in Bath this Wednesday (August 12th) and found a B&NES sponsored survey starting on the path up to the Kennet and Avon Canal from the Grosvenor Bridge access point off the London Road.
The Council has a sum of money for ‘improvements’ and – as you will discover elsewhere on this website – is holding public consultations to ask for the opinions of those who use this scenic route into town.
Getting pedestrians, runners, cyclists and dog owners to agree is going to be a major issue!
Also, this is a beautiful route which is full of Nature and is an environment which must not be destroyed.
A tree by the canal towpath entrance is felled.
In Sydney Gardens the ‘thinning out’ operation that has begun to let in light and deter any monkey business in the bushes gathers momentum.
I watched a perfectly healthy tree being felled by the park entrance to the canal towpath.

Seems it’s just ‘in the wrong place’ and its roots could undermine the nearby walls.
I hope same argument won’t be used across the whole of this historic former remnant of a Victorian ‘vauxhall’ or pleasure garden.
The poor old fountain in Laura Place is out of action again. Engineers from B&NES are doing a sterling job in patch repairs but the whole issue of Bath and its promotion of its waters is surely overdue to be debated.
The city does not seems to see much beyond the Thermal Spa and Roman Baths.
